Mia has just graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico. And her first posting is to Hawaii. Hoping to ease into her new life, her first case doesn't leave any time for that. How hard would you work to solve the crimes when the victims are as bad as the person killing them?
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. The characters are well developed, and seem like real people. Too often stories don't portray FBI agents having a life outside of their jobs, that is not the case with Mia. Game nights and meals with people are all part of the story. Mia's observations of Hawaii paint a good picture. Her internal dialogue is often very funny. Mia is like a lot of us in that she over thinks everything. Reading about her winding herself and then trying to talk herself down will strike a chord with many people. Luckily for everyone Mia is partnered with Tony an island native.
Ms. Kent takes the time to explain what is important to the case and she is good at disguising what could be clues you need to figure it out. I really like the non-crime related times as well. She takes the time for the reader to get to know Mia and Tony as people. It makes the whole story more fun. Luckily this is the first in a series and everything is set up for a case that will be throughout the other books of the series.
The murders are cleverly planned out. You don't realize what is happening in the big picture until the end. Which makes you download the next book and keep reading.
