Cross Contamination

Cross Contamination by M. Larson

A different kind of ghost story describes this book to perfection. Not your typical ghost story because these are not your typical ghosts. There are no scary moments caused by the ghosts. In fact, I think this is how all of us would like to believe ghosts are. Just an other worldly verision of themselves, with a few unique powers. Meg comes back to her hometown a mere shadow of themselves and no one knows why. And when Meg's beloved Grams dies it may be more than she can take. But the fun is about to begin when Grams appears in her closet. She needs Meg to find out why she died. And she is going to help, along with a few of her friends. Enter the ghosts.

Why I like this story

What makes this book so fun to read is the interactions the ghosts have with each other and the living. Grams and Aunt Ethel are a hoot. They reminded me of Lucy and Ethel. William and Julius provide many moments of  comic relief. Old Doc Lindsey is usually the logical one of the bunch and they will have someone new added to the support group by story's end.

Other reasons I like this book

The living characters are good too. Meg is a hot mess. Jace is the handsome deputy from Meg's past. Annabel, everyone needs an Annabel in their lives. Kai and Jack are two co-workers who play a bigger part in the story than you will think. And then there are the bad guys some of whom will be in the family.

There is of course the murder mystery and the motives behind it  I found interesting, but there is an underlying mystery that is hinted at through out the story which is setting up the next book. At times laughout loud funny and other times hold your seat action  Cross Contamination is a fun book to read. The snark and sass will make you smile. Cross Contamination is the first of the Dearly Departed triolgy

The words I think of to describe this book are: strong women, paranormal cozy lite romance and funny. My rating: ☕☕☕☕☕
