I think I can speak for all true book lovers and say that if there was a place like Storyton Hall, that is where we would spend every vacation. A resort, a very secret library with a secret order to guard it. Pretty sure that covers all the bases for a great story. "A Reader's paradise in the Pines"
The premise of Storyton Hall is a resort dedicated to reading. The are other activities of course but with rooms named for authors, it is mostly for reading. When you first meet Jane, she doesn't know about the secret her family has guarded for years. As she learns, she grows in leaps and bounds. The characters in this book are fun. As readers we all have friends that prefer one genre over another and some of the ladies in Jane's book club, The Cover Girls, are like that. Her primary support club are a group of ladies that form the book club. And I really enjoyed that they read real books. My to be read list got a couple of new entries.
The manor comes to life with every description. The Agatha Christie tea room. And Mrs. Hubbard's food will make your mouth water. I think there needs to be a Storyton Hall Cookbook. The manor has many rooms, secret passages and Ms Adams description have you picking your favorite spot. Parts of Storyton are a step back in time. High tea every day, no cell phones or computers in the common rooms and old world manners. The village down from the Manor is as quaint as the manor itself. With names like The Cheshire Cat, Run for Cover and Geppetto's the village toy store. The characters are people you get to know slowly and come to feel like you know them. The twins Hem, short for Hemingway, and Fitz, short for Fitzgerald, are very involved in everything and find trouble without even trying. Mrs. Pratt, the resident romance reader and resident gossip, Eloise, Jane's best friend and bookstore owner are just two that you will come to know.
Jane's first themed event a Murder and Mayhem week is sure to bring in much needed funds and fun. Murder and Mayhem's guests arrive at the manor as fictional detectives. The bartenders in the Ian Flemming Lounge have created drinks named after those same detectives. The events include a literary themed scavenger hunt, a costume ball , a medical scare
A word of caution, keep a notebook handy as you read to write down all the books that are mentioned. Another first of an on-going series, once you start you will want to keep going with the rest of the series.
Book categories: cozy mystery, secret library, strong woman, secret society.
