In a father's footsteps

In a Father's Footsteps by Veronica Mixon

Another story that stays with you for a long time! I first read this book in early 2023 and I still remember the characters and story. I cried, raged and laughed reading this book. I didn't realize until recently that is part of a series. When I read it the title was In a Father's Footsteps, now it is listed as Changing Hearts: In a Father's Footsteps.

Why I like this story

It says a lot when a book stays with you for weeks after you have finished it and this is one of those book. The story begins with a cryptogram. And just like that Osla is back into the days of breaking codes. And the stage is set. What made three friends hate each other? And why, after years of being apart is one reaching out to the others?

Other reasons I like this book

Ms. Mixon has become one of my favorite authors. They was she writes makes you feel what the characters are feeling. Marissa's journey starts as one of profound sadness but through it all is hope and love. Her decisions will make you ask yourself what you would do in the same circumstances. Let's face it we all make stupid mistakes fueled by alcohol or not. Told from both Marissa and Jacob's perspective, you can see how events transpire. And how some decisions take their toll on so many more people than is initially thought.

I really like how all of the characters become someone you care about. Getting two perspective's shows how two people who are connected still have their own lives to live at the same time. As you read each word you will become more attached to Marissa and Jacob. Marissa's dreams alone will make you cry. You will find yourself reading just because you have to find out what happens next. None of the decisions or events are easy to read and there are times when you have to take a break because the emotions are so intense, but you will be back..

There are so many subjects that are touched on in this book. Unexpected pregnancy, war , grandparents rights, love and loss. All of which are crucial to the story and Ms. Mixon handles all of them with such grace.

Have a box of tissues handy and enjoy.
